Life May Be

Encouraged by Ehsan Khoshbakht, Iranian filmmaker Mania Akbari and I sent cine-letters to each other. We discussed movies, bodies and the great poet Forough Farrokzad.

In one scene in a hotel room in Lithuania, writing to Mania about nudity, I drank a can of Carlsberg beer, ate Pringles, and took my clothes off. In the film, editor Timo Langer didn’t use the part of the shot where I was fully frontally naked. I was unsure about such exposure, and trusted him – he’s great – but later regretted it, as Mania appeared naked. So, for the launch of the film in London, I restaged the scene, more exposed this time, the lager, Pringles and my trainer where they were in the original shot.

I hesitated before showing this image here, but then thought that, since it’s a central theme of the film, I should.
